ReachTEL polling released today confirms, again, the majority of Tasmanians are behind the East Coast community in their opposition to fish farming at Okehampton Bay.
Tassal is preparing to set up pens in Okehampton Bay, but salmon farming in the Mercury Passage has never had public support and the approval process was corrupted.
The marine environment belongs to Tasmanians in perpetuity, and salmon farming is just one of many interests who should be involved in an independent conversation about who uses our coastal waters.
Today’s polling makes it clear Labor and the Liberals are out of step with the communities they claim to represent. They need to listen to residents, commercial and recreational fishers and tourism businesses who want to be listened to before big businesses.
