The Greens welcome the Acting Premier’s announcement of a repatriation flight arriving from the UK. Australians should be able to come home, and quarantine safely.

We understand that while no Afghanis will be on the repatriation flight, Tasmania will still be contributing to the resettlement effort by freeing up space for Afghanis to quarantine in other jurisdictions.

We also acknowledge the Premier’s previous statements offering for Tasmania to accept Afghani refugees and hope he follows up by making a strong representation to the Prime Minister that we want to offer true sanctuary to these desperate people.

We encourage the Gutwein Government to make it clear to the Federal Government that those fleeing Afghanistan are always warmly welcome, and we stand ready to accept refugees in the weeks and months ahead.

Lutruwita/Tasmania is a warm and welcoming place. The State Government should be encouraging resettlement on our island for as many Afghanis as possible.

There are many in the Tasmanian Hazara community who have been trying to get their families out of Afghanistan. We hope the Gutwein Liberals will make sure they can be reunited on our island, where they can make a new life with the ones they love.

The Afghanis who were lucky enough to get out of Afghanistan have been through horror to escape the Taliban.

We hope Peter Gutwein will make it clear Tasmania will welcome as many people as possible and support them when they get here.
