The Greens were pleased to see the Premier table long-awaited legislation to restore the numbers in the House of Assembly.
It is a good day for democracy.
Today is the culmination of our decades-long campaign to restore the numbers in Parliament, after they were cut to try to remove the Greens.
As a result of that ill-considered, political decision, the Tasmanian people have suffered poorer governance, and democracy has suffered.
In cutting the numbers, Parliament’s talent pool became shallower, scrutiny was reduced and Ministers were overloaded.
We are relieved Premier Rockliff has acknowledged the mistake and made good on his commitment to remedy it, where many of his predecessors refused.
A restored House of Assembly finally looks set to be reality. The Greens look forward to debating and supporting the Bill.
