The feed-in tariff decision by the Economic Regulator to only pay solar PV owners a mere 6.6c per kilowatt hour is a slap in the face for solar owners and the installation industry*.

That's not surprising, given the terms of reference dictated by the Hodgman Government.

Under the proposal, solar owners will now get 6.6c/kWh for the electricity they generate, and Aurora will sell that on to other customers for up to 25.5c/kWh.

This is ridiculous, and slightly offensive, given we're paying almost 17c/kWh to generate electricity from gas, and 30c/kWh from diesel. Private solar installations are doing the government a favour.

This decision was handed down in the same week as the Victorian regulator recommended rooftop solar owners be properly rewarded for the value and environmental benefits they bring to the grid.

This decision was handed down despite this year's energy crisis. The Liberal government's ideological opposition to renewables and future thinking couldn't be more obvious.
