Minister Jaensch’s bragging is highly misleading. The numbers provided in his media release are the total since 2015. In actuality, this quarterly report shows that in the last quarter very little is happening.

Twenty-five households have been assisted into affordable home ownership and sixty-four households into affordable private rentals.

In terms of actual supply, zero affordable land lots have been released and zero new units of homelessness accommodation have been built.  Only nine social housing dwellings have been constructed.

Previous reports have measured progress against the 2015-19 Affordable Housing Strategy. Pathetically, the last two reports have ditched these targets and replaced them with five high level measures that are marked as “on track”.

In complete disregard of the English language, Homeless Accommodation is marked as “on track” despite the fact that the government’s own chart shows they are behind schedule and all are forecast to be completed well after the target date.

True to form, the Liberals are more spin than substance on housing.
