Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader
The Premier has the Greens’ strong support for announcing a state of emergency for Tasmania.
This decision will save lives.
Now is the time for all of us to stick together, as Tasmanians, as we confront this terrible pandemic as an island community.
The Greens are pleased these quarantine measures will be taken, as we and most medical professionals have been calling for.
There will be enormous and multiple challenges associated with this decision for people right across the community, but it is necessary. Above all else, we have to reduce the risk of this lethal virus spreading across the community and taking lives.
We welcome the declaration of a state of emergency at this critical time. The Greens have great faith in Police Commissioner, Darren Hine, to oversee the planning and management of this unfolding crisis.
These are hard times and it has only just begun. We trust the Premier is listening to those calling for support for vulnerable and isolated people within the community – people with a disability, the elderly and those without a roof over their heads.
These are the Tasmanians who will most need government assistance and our collective love and support in the dark, difficult months ahead.
