The Greens are pleased State Parliament will be returning next week. During this time of emergency and uncertainty, scrutiny of government is critical.

We are, however, disappointed it has only been scheduled for one day per sitting week, at this point.

Now that appropriate arrangements have been put in place to ensure Parliament can function with minimal risk, there is no reason not to schedule two days each sitting week.

We are still in conversations with the Leader of Government Business and Labor about the proposed sitting dates for 2020, and the order of business. We are hopeful the government will accept our proposal for an additional day of sitting.

In a healthy democracy and a functioning Parliament there is a need for both scrutiny and debate. We’re hopeful a meaningful opportunity for talking through the issues relating to the emergency response will be included in Parliament’s order of business.
