Storage Levels Stress Need For Renewables

The damage to the Basslink cable has exposed Tasmania’s increasing dependence on dirty coal-fired power from the mainland and resulting vulnerability to cuts to our electricity supply.

Basslink has made us lazy because it has removed the need to remain energy self sufficient.

With Hydro water storage levels at only 21.2% and a prediction that those levels will fall to only 16, the need to generate more of our own renewable electricity becomes more and more apparent.

Tasmanians expect the government to act in their best interest and ensure a secure electricity supply that protects our state’s clean, green image.

This is best achieved by increasing the production of renewable energy on the island.

With appropriate government policies, we could be at least 100% renewable. It's time for the government to announce increased support for clean, renewable energy generation.
