The protest outside the Liberal Party Conference is another reminder of the strong opposition within the community to a super trawler in Tasmanian waters.

All Tasmanians want to see commercial and recreational fishing survive for the long-term and a supertrawler puts that at risk.

Hoovering-up of the base fish stock threatens our fisheries - small pelagic fish are the bread and butter of the food chain.

The Abbott government reconsidering the ban on night-time fishing for the Geelong Star is an absolute outrage. Nothing has changed since the dolphin and seal deaths earlier this year.

Removing the ban would just say that it's acceptable for seals and dolphins to be killed for short-term profit. It's very clear Tasmanians don't want that.

The Tasmanian Liberals need to commit to protecting our waters from overfishing and fix their broken 2014 election promise.
