With hundreds of VET students across Tasmania likely affected by yet another stuff up in the Tasmanian Assessment Standards and Certification (TASC) assessments, the agency must review its processes as a matter of priority.

We are hearing that VET students who are questioning their marks are not receiving an adequate response from TASC, who – to date despite the mistakes being made – are apparently not certain they will review and reissue results.

VET students can often come from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Their assessment results can make an enormous difference to their future employment opportunities.

These students deserve and need a better response from TASC, who should issue a public statement inviting any student who believes they’ve been incorrectly assessed to come forward, and an assurance their results will be reviewed.

On the wider concern, TASC seriously needs to have a look at their systems and if more resourcing is required to prevent such stress in the future, Minister Rockliff needs to commit to providing it.
