It's very welcome news that Uber will be operational in Tasmania by Christmas.

The sharing economy represents opportunities for Tasmanian drivers to fill shortfalls during busy periods, and gives the public choice.

There's concern within the community that Uber may morph from the original model and could be hiring drivers without necessarily paying what they're due.  It's important government ensures all checks and balances are done.

We want Tasmanians to be confident that the income stream offered by the Uber opportunity is not disadvantaging the drivers, or risking community safety.

The sharing economy has been developing for some time now.  It's the role of modern governments to allow it to flourish, but ensure it's still checked by regulation.
