Congratulations to Richard Flanagan on winning the Man Booker prize, and for highlighting on the international stage the anti-environment policies of the federal and state Liberal governments.
“Richard’s writing is in so many ways based on his love for Tasmania and its people, and the Man Booker prize is fitting reward for a proud and extremely talented Tasmanian,” Greens Arts spokesperson Nick McKim MP said today.
“Tasmania has a bright future that in part will be based on creativity and culture. Richard’s prize will help put Tasmania on the world map for all the right reasons.”
“How sad that on the very day that Richard has shown what is possible in Tasmania, the Hodgman government has retreated into the past with its plan to export woodchips from the Hobart waterfront,” Mr McKim said.
