The sale of TasPorts' Triabunna wharf to a local, marine based business is final proof that Triabunna’s future is in tourism and marine-based industries, not native forest woodchip exports.

Hopefully, the Liberals such as Lyons’ MP, Guy Barnett, will now move beyond their belief that there is any future in reviving woodchip exports from Triabunna.

The sale affirms that Triabunna is moving towards a new, more economically viable future in industries that build on the town and the region’s strengths and natural assets.

Triabunna has a spectacular deepwater harbour and it is the gateway to Maria Island. After a period of upheaval, this sale along with the ongoing work of Triabunna Investments on the old mill site, should give a much needed economic boost to this largely untapped, but promising region of Tasmania.
