Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader and Parks spokesperson

The Greens welcome the Premier’s announcement that Tasmania’s green spaces will be open to locals from this coming Monday.

We understand why, in a time when lives were at risk, that the decision was made to limit access to much loved wilderness, National Parks and coastal reserves. We also recognised the decision caused genuine angst in the community and raised the matter consistently with the Premier.

We always respected that the decision was made on Public Health advice.

In a time of anxiety, access to wilderness areas and our magnificent coastline is so important. The physical and mental health benefits are immeasurable.

Nature-loving Tasmanians have been patient, and on their behalf we thank the Premier for once again allowing all Tasmanians to access the natural places they love.

We all know how important it has been to stay at home, and discourage gatherings and physical contact. We thank the Premier for reopening parks and reserves as the first step on Tasmania’s path to recovery.
