The Legislative Council has delivered another humiliating and embarrassing blow to the Hodgman government, telling it to go and negotiate a pay freeze with the public sector unions before they will consider its contentious Bill, said Greens Leader and Treasury spokesperson Kim Booth MP.

“Conducting good faith negotiations with the unions is exactly what the Greens and many others in the community have been calling for the government to do,” Mr Booth said.

“This humiliating and embarrassing slap in the face delivered by the Legislative Council this evening should be a wake-up call to this inept and arrogant Liberal government.”

“The more the Liberals try to ignore and crash through those raising legitimate concerns, the deeper the hole they dig for themselves.  Surely now they will have to stop, look at themselves, and start to listen to other opinions.”

“The Greens warn the Premier and the Treasurer that they must enter into genuine and good faith negotiations with the public sector during this one month grace period offered by the Upper House,” Mr Booth said.
