Andrea Dawkins MP to move—
That the House:—
(a) as expected, the 2016 Federal Coalition Budget contains nothing for Tasmania, with Launceston missing out significantly in badly needed infrastructure funding;
(b) that no provision in the Budget was made for Launceston’s water and sewerage system, the infrastructure for which is in desperate need of upgrade and replacement;
(c) that although the Federal Liberal Member for Bass has continually promised to fund and fix the Tamar River siltation problem, no money has been allocated to fund sewerage treatment to enable any of the strategies flagged to be implemented;
(d) that despite the premature pledge by the Federal Liberal Member for Bass of $150 million in funding for the University of Tasmania (UTAS) development, no funding has been provided in the Budget;
(e) that the comments by the Premier, Hon Will Hodgman MP that funding allocated in the Federal Budget appeared to be in line with expectations are proof of a State Government very much under the Federal thumb; and
(f) that the Liberal Government at both a State and Federal levels failed northern Tasmanians miserably with an obvious shortfall of badly needed infrastructure funding.
(2) Calls on the Treasurer and Member for Bass, Hon Peter Gutwein MP to:—
(a) stand up to both his Federal counterparts and his Leader;
(b) do the ‘heavy lifting’ he has been fond of pontificating;
(c) deliver on the promises he has made to his Electorate; and
(d) undertake to negotiate for further and better outcomes in future Budgets.
