That the House:—

(1)           Notes that:—

(a)           strong Job Growth in Tasmania began in November 2013 under the Labor/Green Government and declined immediately after the Liberals took office, and flat lined shortly after in December 2014;

(b)           the Australian Bureau of Statistics trend data shows that employment levels in Tasmania have been in decline for six straight months;

(c)           the Treasurer, Hon Peter Gutwein MP, as well as other Liberal party members, have referred to this trend as recent volatility in the data; and

(d)           according to the Oxford Dictionary volatile means “Liable to change rapidly and unpredictably”.

(2)           Acknowledges that counter to the claims of the Treasurer, the 6 month decline in employment is an unfortunately stable and predictable trend which has seen 4000 jobs lost since September 2015.

(3)           Calls on the Government to acknowledge this well established and concerning trend and take action to establish long term sustainable job growth.
