That this house:

  1. Notes the release of the Australian Fisheries Management Authority quarterly report into the small pelagic fishery which shows the Seafish Tasmanian vessel the Geelong Star is responsible for the deaths of 26 protected animals, including 12 seals, 9 dolphins, 3 shortfin mako sharks, 2 shy albatross and one unknown animal.
  2. Deplores the death of protected animals and calls for immediate, public reporting of deaths of protected species.
  3. Supports night-time fishing bans on vessels and the presence of observers to reduce the number of mammal deaths.
  4. Calls on the Tasmanian Government to make it clear to the Australian Government that fishing methods which lead to deaths of protected animals are unacceptable to Tasmanians.
