That this House:

1.     Acknowledges the over 1200 Tasmanians who packed Hobart's City Hall on 8th August 2015 in support of marriage equality in Australia;

2.     Understands that equal marriage would be the most important step our country could take to end discrimination against LGBTI Australians;

3.     Commends federal LNP Warren Ensch for defying the entrenched discriminatory policy within his party and tabling marriage equality legislation;

4.     Recognises the underlying Liberal principle of individual freedom;

5.     Condemns Liberal Prime Minister Tony Abbott for shutting down the calls of many of his members and kowtowing to the wishes of Liberal Right power brokers such as Tasmanian Senator Abetz;

6.     Notes the comments of Premier Hodgman calling on Prime Minister Abbott to allow a conscience vote on the issue of marriage equality;

7.     Hopes the Premier will now allow his own members a similar right - remembering when marriage equality legislation was last introduced by former Greens Leader Nick McKim and then Premier Lara Giddings, when the Hodgman Liberals voted with a single conscience; and

8.     Calls on the Premier to actively advocate for an end to discrimination against LGBTI Tasmanians and lobby his Federal colleagues to let love win and pass the marriage equality Bill tabled in the Senate.
