Ms Dawkins to move—That the House:—

(1) Notes that many Tasmanian rivers are burdened by waste which has entered the system from the mining industry.

(2) Understands the poor health of the King and Queen rivers in Queenstown stem from decades of poor mining practises.

(3) Further notes that:—

(a) Earth Science students from universities around Australia are studying substandard mining practises on the West coast of Tasmania to learn about the long term effects of mining on rivers; and

(b) present students are learning about appropriate remediation practises, which consider the environmental impacts of mining from analysing samples.

(4) Calls on the Government to ensure that our precious waterways are no longer used as open sewers, and that all mining operations have, as an element of their business plan, full remediation of rivers affected by mining practises.
