That the House:—

(1)           Notes that:—

(a)           the proposed changes to the Tasmanian Education system tabled 21 September 2016 in the House of Assembly, heralding additional funding requirements of over $100 Million;

(b)           until the details of the reports from the reviews into years 9 to 12 and the Early Years Coalition B4 are known, funding requirements to implement their recommendations can only be speculated;

(c)           the Federal Education Minister, Hon. Simon Birmingham MP, has preceded tomorrow’s Education Ministers’ meeting on funding, with suggestions that Tasmania is receiving beyond its allocation and that reducing Tasmania’s allocation will be considered.

(2)           Calls on the Minister for Education and Training, Hon. Jeremy Rockliff MP, to dispute the modelling used by the Federal Coalition Government and their attempt to reduce Tasmania’s Gonski funding, and to fight for every penny imperative for the success of our education system.
