Cassy O'Connor MP to move—
That the House: —
(1) Notes the Hodgman Liberal Government’s 2016/17 Budget:—
(a) lacks courage and a vision for the future;
(b) is built on layers of untruth about increased spending on essential services that were savaged in the first Hodgman Liberal Government Budget and the Treasurer, Hon Peter Gutwein MP’s claim that the Budget is ‘back in the black’;
(c) repackages money already announced and puts it forward as new money;
(d) embeds funding cuts to health and underfunds public education;
(e) allocates no money to critical water and sewerage infrastructure needs;
(f) ignores climate change with no new funding for climate mitigation and adaptation but funds allocated to burning forests for energy;
(g) savagely cuts funding to the Parks and Wildlife Service by more than $6million over the forward estimates, at a time when visitation to Tasmania’s Parks and reserves is increasing and the threat posed by global warming is escalating;
(h) is built on a sham surplus with the State in fact in the red by $94.2 million next year, based on both the Auditor General and Treasury’s own advice on the best measure; and
(i) is possibly the most dishonest Budget document ever tabled by a Tasmanian Treasurer.
(2) Further notes that in contrast, the Greens Alternative Budget is an honest document that seeks to restore frontline services, invest in preventative health, reinstate teachers and Pathway Planners, invest in critical infrastructure, ramp up investment in renewable energy and public transport, properly fund the Parks and Wildlife Service and assist some of Tasmania’s most disadvantaged people to secure employment.
(3) Agrees, the Greens have a plan for the future that extends beyond the next election that has courage and vision, a vision for a sustainable, resilient and prosperous Tasmania.
