That this House:

1.      Recognises the significant contribution to Tasdance, and to the arts on the whole, of outgoing Artistic Director of the dance company, Anne Greig;

2.      Recognises further that since her appointment as Artistic Director in 1997, Ms Greig has developed Tasdance into a vital force in Tasmania’s cultural landscape and into the national arts arena;

3.      Acknowledges that under Ms Greig’s guidance and leadership, Tasdance has forged a reputation for quality main-stage performances, as well as innovative community and educational programs;

4.      Notes Ms Greig’s 40 years of tertiary and industry teaching in Tasmania, nationally and in the US;

5.      Acknowledges that during that time Ms Greig has worked as Course Director with the National Aboriginal and Islander Skills Development Association, lecturer at the University of Tasmania for Batchelor of Performing Arts students, Performing Arts Officer with Arts Tasmania, as well as freelance teaching and video making;

6.      Notes the many councils and boards Ms Greig has served upon, including the Tasmanian Cultural Industries Council, Australian Choreographic Centre Advisory Council and Ausdance;

7.      Acknowledges that as a result of Ms Greig’s AsiaLink residency in Korea in 2001 that Tasdance was then invited to perform at the Asia Pacific Performing Arts Network in 2002, then in India in 2003, and at the Futures Dance Festival in 2006;

8.      Congratulates Ms Greig on her many career awards including, a Bicentennial Medal in 2003, a place on the Tasmanian Honour Roll for Women in 2010, and receiving the Services to Dance Award in 2014; and

9.      Thanks Ms Greig for her ongoing hard work and contribution to seeing arts in Tasmania transform and grow to reach national and international standards.
