Ms Woodruff to move—That the House:—

  1. Acknowledges that the 'development at any cost' ethic is widespread across this Liberal Government.

  2. Notes that the Treasurer Hon. Peter Gutwein MP has approved a $6 million loan from Treasury for Glamorgan Spring Bay Council to build water infrastructure, of which $4.5 million will go towards supporting Tassal’s development at Okehampton Bay, despite the Review of that lease not being concluded until February 2017.

  3. Further notes that in addition to being Treasurer, Mr Gutwein is also the Minister for Local Government and the Minister responsible for TasWater, which has objected to Tassal’s proposed large dam at the head of the water catchment for the region.

  4. Recognises the Glamorgan Spring Bay Council centres on the drought-prone East Coast, and that they were in stage-two water restrictions for several months last summer.

  5. Calls on the Treasurer to act in the best interests of the ratepayers of the Council and halt this loan approval until the water and salmon lease issues are resolved.
