Expensive Advertising Comes at the Cost of Public Health

Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader & Health spokesperson

Health Minister, Michael Ferguson, cannot possibly justify spending taxpayer dollars on an advertising campaign for his as-yet-unrealised, unfunded health reform White Paper.

Every dollar spent promoting reforms which haven’t yet been implemented is a dollar not being invested in bringing down soaring elective surgery waiting lists.

National Accounts Cast Doubt on Key Budget Assumptions

Nick McKim MP | Greens Treasury Spokesperson

The National Accounts figures released today show Tasmania's economy stagnating, and cast doubt on key assumptions in Treasurer Peter Gutwein's state budget.

Despite Mr Gutwein forecasting growth of 2.75% per annum on his budget, in the March quarter Tasmania's State Final Demand grew by just .3% in trend terms.

This is a growth rate of less than half of that predicted by Mr Gutwein's budget.

Budget Rhetoric Not Matched by Reality

Nick McKim MP | Greens Treasury spokesperson

The Hodgman Liberal government has missed a golden opportunity to support small business and creative industries in this year’s State Budget. The serious damage to frontline services has not been repaired, and the failure to invest in small business and the creative economy is an indictment on a so-called Liberal government.

Preliminary State Budget Response

Nick McKim MP | Greens Treasury spokesperson

If you are homeless, if you are sick, if you have children in public schools, or if you care about the environment and action on climate change, the Budget has let you down.

It is a heartless budget which puts roads before people.

The damage done to essential services by the first Hodgman Budget has not been reversed. 766 public servants have been sacked, and health, education and housing are still worse off, while the Treasurer has created a $220.4 million slush fund for political pork barrelling.
