Hodgman Refuses to Criticise Scrapping of Clean Energy Target

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens' Leader

It was a childish performance from Tasmania’s Energy Minister, and a weak performance from the Premier, in Parliament today, when questioned about the Federal Government’s decision to walk away from the Clean Energy Target and back in dirty coal fired power.

Neither the Premier nor the Energy Minister could give a straight answer about the impact on Tasmania as a result of the Prime Minister's decision to abandon renewables.

Liberal Anti-Protest Laws Condemned by High Court

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens' Leader

In a massive, justly deserved slap in the face to the Tasmanian Liberals, their draconian, undemocratic anti-protest laws have been found to be in breach of the Australian Constitution by the High Court.

The High Court today found in favour of former Greens' Leader, Bob Brown's challenge to the Workplace (Protection from Protestors) Act 2014, in an overwhelming majority judgment that found the Tasmanian law contravenes the implied right of communication in the Australian Constitution.

Transport Minister Kept in the Dark Over Rail Tracks Removal

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens' Leader and Member for Denison

In Question Time today it became clear that the decision to pull up rail tracks on the Macquarie Point site was made without the approval or knowledge of Infrastructure and Transport Minister, Rene Hidding.

Advocates of Hobart Light Rail are right to be concerned about the removal of rail tracks.  They should also be concerned that this took place without the Minister's knowledge.

Return of Kings Run Shows Community Leadership

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens' Leader

The return of the late, great Geoff King's takayna property to Aboriginal ownership is both an historic moment and an important step towards ensuring Geoff's legacy of care for that extraordinary, wild coastline lives on.

Geoff King gave his life to protecting the culturally rich landscape his family long owned from damage and vandals, often putting himself at personal risk to do so.

Premier Must Explain Why Liberals are Taking Chinese Money

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens' Leader

A report in The Australian newspaper today reveals the Tasmanian Liberals accepted $30,000 of Chinese-linked money on 30 May last year.

The Premier must explain what influence has been bought by Chinese Communist Party linked businesses which donated to the Tasmanian Liberals last year.

Both companies who donated to the Tasmanian Liberal Party have links to the Yuhu Group and its billionaire founder, Huang Xiangmo.
