Liberals Must Listen to Survivors and Church Leaders and Commit to National Redress Scheme

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens’ Leader

While the Hodgman Liberals continue to drag their heels, Tasmania church leaders have joined forces to call for the State to join the National Child Abuse Redress Scheme.

A key recommendation of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, the National Redress Scheme is set to commence on 1 July 2019.  Tasmania has yet to commit.

Domain Figures Confirm Escalating Housing Emergency

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens’ Leader and Housing spokesperson

Hobart rents are now rivalling Melbourne’s, in figures released today by Domain.

New statistics are being released regularly.  They describe a tightening rental market that’s pricing Tasmanians out.

The rental crisis in Hobart is worsening, with fewer affordable rentals available than ever before and families being forced into homelessness. It’s alarming that Hobartians are without a roof over their heads and winter fast approaching.

Senator Janet Rice | Australian Greens’ Forests spokesperson

Climate Change Ignored in Cabinet Reshuffle

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens’ Leader

The world is getting hotter and extreme weather events are already impacting on Tasmania, yet the Premier has again decided not to reinstate the Climate Change portfolio.

Devastating drought, bushfires and floods, major biosecurity challenges, rapidly warming East Coast waters, coastal erosion impacts on private property; these are all signs of accelerating climate change.
