Criminal Convictions

Apology and Expungement of Convictions Welcome

Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader

The Greens warmly welcome the government's decision to expunge the historic convictions of Tasmanians who were criminally charged on the basis of their sexuality.

Until 1997, homosexuality was a crime in Tasmania and it's well and truly time that we recognise how offensive and discriminatory that law was.

The government has made the right decision to take the next step in the healing process.

The Greens wrote to the Attorney General in October about this matter and we're delighted with today's announcement.
