Hodgman's Health Dishonesty

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Health spokesperson

Following last night’s damning national exposé of avoidable deaths in Tasmanian hospitals, Premier Will Hodgman continues to falsely claim his government has not cut the Health Budget. Instead, unbelievably, he claims they have increased health spending.

Labor Abandon Health as Paul Lennon's Grip Tightens

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Health spokesperson

After spending five years talking about the importance of health to Tasmanians, Labor appears to have abandoned their ‘top priority’.

First they ditched their pokies policy, and now all scrutiny of the Hodgman Government’s mismanagement of health is gone. Labor are instead focussing on a new two-word slogan about a “jobs emergency”, doing the bidding of former Labor Premier and heavyweight, Paul Lennon.

Elective Surgery Fail A Terrible Record For Health Minister

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens’ Health spokesperson

The Royal Hobart Hospital's record for providing elective surgery for people who urgently need it is the worst in the country, according to Australian Institute of Health and Welfare data. Health Minister Michael Ferguson has long-praised his achievements in dealing with the elective surgery waiting list, but it seems his best effort is a miserable one.

Tasmanian Health Forgotten in Federal Budget

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens' Health spokesperson

The gradual withdrawal of Commonwealth health funding over the last few years exposes the dire state of Tasmania’s public health system. This Federal Budget continues that trend.

Provision for Tasmania’s hospitals has gone backwards. Funding to address elective surgery waiting lists and for clinical redesign, to enable the State’s hospitals to treat more patients, both end on 1 July.

Ferguson's LGH Elective Surgery Mess

Andrea Dawkins MP | Greens' Member for Bass

The Health Minister today failed to explain why knee and hip surgery patients who were sent interstate for operations weren't receiving adequate post-operative care at the Launceston General Hospital.

There are reports these patients are not receiving appropriate care plans upon release from hospital.  In some instances, a Hobart-based gastric sleeve surgeon has travelled to Launceston to see them.

Routine Elective Surgery Funds Going To Interstate Hospitals

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Health spokesperson

Health Minister, Michael Ferguson, has been flying patients to private hospitals in Victoria for routine surgery to try and reduce the elective waiting lists.

Instead of investing funds into Tasmanian public hospitals, Minister Ferguson has been paying private hospitals in Tasmania and interstate to conduct routine surgeries.

Health "Fix" Meaningless without Money

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Health spokesperson

Staff in the public health system are unlikely to be satisfied with Minister Ferguson’s announcement of his planned “fix” for our broken health system.

The fundamental problems underlying the unfolding health crisis haven't been addressed, and every day's delay is another day with staff battling in punishing conditions and patients at risk.

Liberals Fail National Hospital Report Card

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Health spokesperson

The AMA Public Hospital Report Card is a shocking record of the Hodgman government’s mismanagement of our hospitals. Tasmania is one of only two states to fail every national performance target for public hospitals in the last year.

The elective surgery wait time has jumped from 45 to 55 days, a 22% increase from last year, and far greater than any time in the last 14 years. And only 43% of Tasmanians are seen on time for elective surgery, less than half the national target we signed up to.
