Pauline Hanson a Threat to Cadbury Jobs

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens' Leader and Member for Denison

One Nation Senator, Pauline Hanson, has launched a disgraceful social media attack on Cadbury's Hobart workers with her call on supporters to boycott Cadbury Easter eggs.

The Senator's fondness for racial vilification and for sowing fear and loathing in the community has reached a new low.

There are 1,100 hardworking Tasmanians employed at Cadbury's Claremont factory.  Senator Hanson's call for a boycott on Cadbury's, because they Halal certify their chocolate, is a threat to those jobs.

Hodgman Must Stand Up for Northern Maritime Jobs

Andrea Dawkins MP | Greens' Northern Tasmania spokesperson

The Australian Maritime College in Launceston is the national centre of naval expertise. Maritime engineering, research and business skills have been their focus for over 40 years.

The Premier must make sure the jobs it brings, and has potential to bring, stay in Northern Tasmania.

Northern Tasmania has been enriched, economically, socially and culturally through the Australian Maritime College for decades.

State Conference Opening Address

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens Leader

Good morning extended Green tribe! It's lovely to see your faces and to personally thank you for travelling from wherever you came to be here in beautiful Deloraine.

Thank you, particularly to all the Lyons members and their helpers for bringing us all together this weekend.

We meet on the traditional lands of the Pallittorre people, who - as it was for unknown thousands of the first Tasmanians - were removed from their country by trickery, force, at the point of a gun.

Jobs' Crisis Demands Honesty and Action

Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader

The first step towards solving a problem is to acknowledge its existence.

With ABS data showing 5,200 Tasmanians out of work since last September, the Liberal Government does indeed have a jobs’ crisis on its hands.

This has been confirmed by the Tasmanian Council of Social Services (TasCOSS), yet the Liberals continue to deny their failure to deliver on the jobs’ bonanza they promised Tasmanians before the last State election.

Jobs' Growth Continues to Decline

Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader

The Liberals promised Tasmanians looking for work the world when they came to office. Sadly, what we have seen could not be further from the truth.

The ABS jobs figures released today mark the tenth straight month of decline in the trend number of employed people and the trend proportion of Tasmanians with jobs.

In total, the data tells us more than 5,000 Tasmanians have lost their jobs since last September.

NAB Report Makes Sobering Reading

Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader and Treasury spokesperson

The latest NAB State Update for Tasmania makes sobering reading.  It's a grim reality check for the Hodgman Government, which may explain the Treasurer’s silence on its release.

NAB points to the reality of continued structural decline in the Forestry sector, highlighting the futility of the Liberals’ attempt to put Forestry Tasmania on a financially sustainable footing.

Jobs Data Points to Need for Dedicated Employment Minister

Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader and Treasury spokesperson

The latest ABS jobs data reveals there are 3900 fewer Tasmanians in work than there were last September in trend terms.

It is positive to see a small decline in unemployment according to the ABS data and a growth in secure, full time employment.  In eight months, however, almost 4000 people lost their job in Tasmania.
