Bicheno Penguin Deaths Demand Government Action

Reports of yet another penguin attack is truly devastating news. The little penguin deaths at Bicheno are the last thing the local community, bird lovers and conservationists would want to hear.

Thirteen little penguins were today found dead near the Bicheno blowhole, with cause of death yet to be determined – but likely to be from dog attack.

Gutwein Fails to Act on Recycling Crisis

Last Friday, the company that collects recyclables from five southern councils, SKM Recycling, was declared insolvent. Without an immediate intervention, this means kerbside recycling from those councils will be destined for landfill.

Despite southern Tasmanian councils being amidst an evolving recycling crisis, the Environment Minister, Peter Gutwein, refused to take immediate statewide action to help them.
