Children Exposed to Family Violence Slipping Through Large Service Gaps

Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader and Human Services spokesperson

Former Australia of the Year, Rosie Batty launched the Commissioner for Children’s report, ‘Children and Young People’s Unique Experience of Family Violence' today.

While launching the Report, Ms Batty told her own heart wrenching story and talked about how all children who are victims of violence in the home must be heard and supported.

In Tasmania, it seems as though that's not yet the case.

Investment in Family Violence Perpetrator Program Welcome

Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader

Human Services Minister, Jacquie Petrusma, is on the right track with the announcement today of a funded program to treat men who are violent towards women and children.

This work is a necessary part of stemming the frightening rates of domestic and family violence in Tasmania.

The work of the community sector in delivering support, counselling, housing and access to services for abused women and their children is essential but it can't treat the causes of violence against women and children.
