Premier Deflecting on Donations from Federal Hotels

Andrea Dawkins MP | Greens' Gambling spokesperson

When asked again in Parliament today whether the Liberals will be accepting donations from Federal Hotels in the lead up to the next State election, the Premier ignored the question and attempted to deflect responsibility to his beleaguered State Director, Sam McQuestin.

Pokies baron, Greg Farrell, has said his company will be offering donations to both Labor and the Liberals to help them “articulate” policy.

Premier Can't Keep Pointing the Finger at McQuestin

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens' Leader

Whether it’s on shady donations from foreign owned companies or the Federal Group, or dirty tricks in Pembroke, the Premier simply refuses to take responsibility for the conduct and decisions of the political party he leads.

It has become a hallmark of Will Hodgman’s leadership going back to, and beyond, the Mantach scandal.  Every time the heat is on, he points the finger at someone else.

Property Council 'Leaders' Debate

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens' Leader

The Property Council knows which side its bread is buttered on.

It’s hosting a debate between the leaders of the two political parties who are in furious agreement on changes to the planning scheme written by and on behalf of developers, the handing of extraordinary powers to the Planning Minister which are a recipe for corruption, the compulsory acquisition of the pinnacle of kunanyi/Mt Wellington for a private development, and the refusal to support donations reform to prevent vested interests buying political favours.

Gambling Inquiry Report Backs in Pokies’ Profits Over People

Andrea Dawkins MP | Greens' Gambling spokesperson

The Future Gaming Markets Inquiry report tabled today has failed Tasmanians by backing in the status quo and the continued harm caused by poker machines in disadvantaged communities across the State.

While the vast majority of submissions called for the removal of pokies from pubs and clubs, this is not reflected in the report.

Labor and Liberals Must Listen to Business and Community on Pokies

Andrea Dawkins MP | Greens' Gambling spokesperson

The open letter from 75 Tasmanian businesses implores both Labor and the Liberals to listen to the deep concern within the community about pokies. Author and historian, James Boyce, is voicing those concerns, and political leaders must listen.

Tasmanians, and Tasmanian businesses, want a these machines removed from the community.  Removing pokies from pubs and clubs would see social harm minimized, and communities and local economies strengthened.

Liberal Backbencher Sings to Donor's Tune

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens' Leader

Liberal backbencher, Nic Street, is pointedly demonstrating what political influence decades of donations from the Federal Group to both major parties has bought.

Any time Federal needs political backIng, the Liberal and Labor parties rush to their defence.

Fresh from the Liberal Party's State Council meeting at a Federal owned casino, Mr Street is now having a crack at the Greens for pointing out how desperate the Farrell family must be to improve their image by holding a rock concert at their Sandy Bay pokies barn.

Anglicare Report Further Proof Tasmania Wins Without Monopoly Deed

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens' Leader and Treasury spokesperson

The Greens hope all Liberal and Labor MPs will read in detail Anglicare's report on the enormous economic and social benefits that would flow if the toxic Federal monopoly Deed is extinguished.

Professor John Mangan's report details the positive economic returns to Tasmanian communities from removing pokies from pubs and clubs.
