Greens Move to Ban New Coal Mines

We are in the midst of a climate emergency and opening up a new coal mine is a recipe for a climate catastrophe.

The world must be transitioning to clean, green energy but the Tasmanian Government is backing in a coal mine.

The climate emergency requires us to keep carbon in the ground. This is non-negotiable. That’s why the Greens will be moving in State Parliament next week to ban new coal mines in Tasmania.

Thousands of young Tasmanians, and community members who care for their future, gathered to strike on Parliament Lawns and around Tasmania last Friday.

People in Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Burnie, Cygnet, Wynyard, Zeehan, Currie and St Helens joined millions across the globe demanding climate action from government.

State Service Should be Given Leave for Climate Strike

On Friday, thousands of young Tasmanians will strike for climate action, joining millions around the globe.

Union leaders, UTAS and other employers are showing their support by letting members and staff know they can join the kids fighting for their future on 20 September.

The Premier, Will Hodgman, should do the same and make it clear to public servants they are free to join the strike for climate.

This is leadership.
