Greens Stand Up to Liberal Threat to Democracy

Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens leader

This election is being bought, via millions of dollars flowing into the Liberal party from the gambling industry.

Our democracy is being corrupted and the Hodgman Liberals are a willing party to that.

The Liberals and the gambling industry are spending at an unprecedented level.

Our democracy, and this election, are being bought and sold right before our eyes. We've never seen anything like it.

Liberal faces adorn Federal and other gambling venues. They have been bought by the pokies barons.

Greens' Motion of No Confidence in the Premier

Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader

We thought long and hard before bringing on a Motion of No Confidence in the Premier today. We recognise that such Parliamentary moves cannot be taken lightly or used frivolously.

Ultimately, given the events of the past week, last year and the Liberals' practices in the House over the past two years, we have no confidence in the Premier's capacity to lead an open, accountable and honest government.

Hodgman Cabinet Integrity Still Under Cloud

Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader

It was pleasing former Minister Adam Brooks apologised to Parliament this afternoon. It was welcome, and a long time coming.

The ducking, weaving and deflecting from Premier Hodgman this week, and his refusal to acknowledge dishonesty, won't have gone unnoticed by Tasmanians who surely expect better from their government. And rightly so.

This is simply a matter of integrity, respect for the Parliament and Ministerial accountability.

Not Enough Transparency over New Minister's Business Interests

Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader

The new Minister for Mining, Adam Brooks is already in an awkward position in relation to his current business interests.  Mr Brooks’ company provides maintenance services to mining companies here, interstate and overseas.

Mr Brooks’ potential conflicts of interest have not been made clear to Tasmanians and nor has the process to divest them. We have only the Premier’s assurance that it would be dealt with appropriately.
