Liberals Shoot the Messenger on Education Shortfall

Andrea Dawkins MP | Greens' Education spokesperson

The revelation of the $51 million shortfall in State education funding is evidence of the Liberals’ irresponsible approach to Tasmania’s young people.

Independent analyst, Martyn Goddard, found state-educated students in Tasmania were being short-changed every year by an average of $908 each. GST funds specifically earmarked for education have been diverted away from our schools, away from educating our children and young people.

Hodgman Government Caves to Extreme Right and Axes Safe Schools

Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens' Leader

The Hodgman Government's decision to scrap funding for the Safe Schools' program is a sure sign the Premier and Education Minister have caved in to pressure from Senator Abetz, and the extreme Right within their ranks.

The price for their cowardice will be paid by those Tasmanian LGBTI students who experience victimisation and bullying in their school environments.

Greens Call for Better Support for Students with Disabilities

Andrea Dawkins MP | Greens' Education spokesperson

In Greens’ Private Members Time this week, we’ll move to affirm the rights of all Tasmanian students to a quality education, and the responsibility of the State Government to provide it.

The Tasmanian Disability Education Reform Lobby's 2017 School Experience Snapshot, a survey of parents of students with disabilities, findings are confronting.   The State education system is clearly failing too many students with a disability.

Education Bill Has Gaping Holes

Andrea Dawkins MP | Greens Education spokesperson

All Tasmanians want to see education outcomes improve, but the Liberals' Education Bill has some gaping holes.

We will take our time to closely scrutinise the legislation tabled today and will be holding the Education Minister to account when it comes to the Parliamentary debate.

The Education Bill will leave Tasmanian parents confused about exactly when their children should be starting school.

Education Act Changes Need Full Community Support

Andrea Dawkins MP | Greens Education spokesperson

The Greens look forward to seeing the government's final amendments to the Education Act when it's tabled in Parliament this week. We will be carefully considering the legislation once it's handed down.

There's been strong community concern about the proposed education changes. We hope the Hodgman Government has been listening while finalising the legislation.
