Tasmanians Deserve a Fair Price for Rooftop Solar

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens’ Energy spokesperson

A fair feed-in tariff for rooftop solar electricity is a must to reduce people’s power bills and stimulate clean jobs and renewable investment.  It would also secure our energy supply and help transition Tasmania to a 100% clean economy.

The Office of the Tasmanian Economic Regulator (OTTER) sets the price of rooftop solar, and the Greens would legislate for the Regulator to include all aspects of rooftop solar when setting the wholesale electricity price.

Basslink 2.0 Business Case $20M Madness

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens' Energy spokesperson

The Liberals should be spending $20 million on real action to create energy security, instead of a wasteful, politically-driven business case for a second Basslink interconnector. This money could build more renewable capacity now, and help pay Tasmanians a fair price for their rooftop solar.

The Commonwealth report into the feasibility of a second Basslink, published earlier this year, was adamant it would be a lame duck project.

Solar Owners Dudded By Anti-Renewable Liberal Agenda

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Energy spokesperson

The feed-in tariff decision by the Economic Regulator to only pay solar PV owners a mere 6.6c per kilowatt hour is a slap in the face for solar owners and the installation industry*.

That's not surprising, given the terms of reference dictated by the Hodgman Government.

Under the proposal, solar owners will now get 6.6c/kWh for the electricity they generate, and Aurora will sell that on to other customers for up to 25.5c/kWh.

Greens Energy Vision Needed

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Energy spokesperson

Today the Tasmanian Greens released the final parts of our Energy Strategy for a renewable and secure energy supply, a blueprint for self-sufficiency and clean electricity.

The Liberals' hands-off approach to managing the electricity market has been a disaster. It’s resulted in some of Tasmania’s largest employers having to cut jobs and contracts because of the government’s failure to act sooner.

Brown Coal Power Imports Staggering and Shameful

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Energy spokesperson

The high levels of dirty energy Tasmania is importing this summer is putting our clean green brand in jeopardy. The latest figures from Hydro are that up to 50% of Tasmania’s power is now coming from Victorian coal-fired power stations.

At the moment Tasmania's energy security comes mostly from water stored in dams, but we’re a long way from being 100% secure.

Liberals Ignore Renewable Energy

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Energy spokesperson

The Energy Minister is blind to the potential of the renewable energy sector in Tasmania and has no long-term plan to support investment by Aurora's solar customers.

Despite the fact that 24,000 households have installed solar panels, the Minister has decided that Aurora won't support renewable energy because it’s “not their job”.

In March this year, 8,200 households were underpaid for the solar electricity they put into the grid and it's still not fixed.
