Liberals Show Two Faces on Aboriginal Heritage

Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens' Leader and Aboriginal Affairs spokesperson

Amendments to the Aboriginal Relics Act are an improvement on the current, racist legislation, but the bill tabled in Parliament today is both a lost opportunity and a clear sign that the Liberals wear two faces on Aboriginal heritage issues.

The Bill tries to dress up the most racist law on Tasmania’s statutes instead of engaging in meaningful conversation with Tasmania’s First People about robust, empowering Aboriginal heritage protection.

Tarkine Tourism Future for NW, not Forest and Heritage Destruction

Andrea Dawkins MP | Greens' Tourism spokesperson

Environmentalists and members of the Aboriginal community gathered in the North West today to call for takayna/the Tarkine to be protected from destruction.

Unique wilderness values and globally significant Aboriginal heritage are being directly threatened by the Hodgman Government's divisive, political agenda.

The Liberal Government is pushing ahead with its publicly funded court battle over 4WD tracks in the Arthur Pieman Conservation Area.

Liberals Slapped Down by Federal Court on takayna/Tarkine Tracks

Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader and Aboriginal Affairs spokesperson

The Hodgman Liberals have been embarrassed nationally by today's Federal Court decision to uphold the ban on re-opening off-road vehicle tracks along the takayna/Tarkine coast.

The Liberals, cheer-led by Adam Brooks MP, have been exposed as reckless cultural vandals who put parochial political concerns before protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage on the Arthur Pieman coast that dates back tens of thousands of years.
