$6M Treasury Loan Needs To Be Iced

Thefinancial activities and conduct of the Glamorgan Spring Bay Council were called into serious question at last night’s Annual General Meeting by local residents.

Ratepayers were concerned they will bear the enormous risk and costs of a massive $6 million Treasury loan, all to fund the supply of “industrial quantities” of fresh water to the Solis and Tassal.

Tassal’s statement that they will go full-steam ahead with their expansion into Okehampton Bay, despite the government's review, confirms the worst of the East Coast community’s concerns.

This proves that the Minister for Primary Industries has created a faux review process. It was clearly an industry stitch-up to make the government look like they’re tough regulators.

Rockliff Rules Out Independent Assessment of East Coast Fish Farm

Today, Minister Rockliff refused to commit to a formal independent assessment of the social impacts of new fish farm leases on the east coast. This is despite acknowledging the need to take out large amounts of fresh water from the local supply for their activities.

Minister Rockliff also revealed Tassal has come to an arrangement with a private landowner to place a dam on a property at Tea Tree Rivulet.
